Dave Hanna started his ocean sailing career aged 12 when he set off with his parents from his native New Zealand on a round the world adventure in their 36´sailing boat. His travels thereafter kept him close to the sea spending many years around the Mediterranean Sea engaging in everything from commercial shipping and salvage, to olive growing. He has a racing record of distinction, having competed in the Whitbread Round the World Race and very many notable regattas worldwide with Overall Winner trophies to his credit. Dave´s occupation in professional yachting has spanned many years and has included some of the finest sailing boats ever built, including the Galileo which he has skippered for over five years.
Engineer/Co Captain: Jared Howorth
Jared Howorth, the Pirate of Penzance, was born and raised in Penzance, Cornwall and sailed from a young age in many classes of dinghy. He has been an engineer for his working life so far and much of that time at sea on sailboats, having covered over 40 000nm including 4 Atlantic crossings and 1 Pacific crossing on sailboats from 30´- 130´. Jared has worked as engineer on Galileo for over a year and so is well placed to ensure your time onboard is trouble free.
Chef: Aine Hanevy
Áine Hanevy, joined Galileo in early 2009. She started sailing in 2002 and went on to complete her instructors course, teaching in the west of Ireland for 2 years before hitting the high seas. Since then she has sailed over 35,000nm. She has worked in hospitality for over 10 years and is guaranteed to make your trip aboard Galileo both a comfortable and enjoyable one.
